The new Rolls-Royce Ghost: less is more!
It is true that Rolls-Royce showed the new Ghost a few weeks ago, but its Polish “display” took place only last Friday. On this occasion, I decided to write a few words about the smaller limousine from the Goodwood factory. The new Ghost is 15 cm longer than its predecessor, uses many achievements of the 21st century (all-steering wheels, laser lights, and even … grill illumination!), And yet its creators maintain that the car was created in accordance with the philosophy of “post opulence “(or post-glamor). Huh?
The new Ghost: tradition and progress
Until now, Rolls-Royce has maintained the “tradition over of modernity” approach. The cars were luxurious, dignified and hand-made, and their chassis and engine provided unparalleled smoothness and a lot of power. Nevertheless, the RR cars were associated more with a limousine with a driver for the English queen than a modern car for a well-to-do young businessman who likes to sit behind the wheel himself. Therefore, the new Ghost is to be a response to the needs of the latter: luxury and comfort are to beautifully complement modernity.
What hides under the bonnet?
No surprises here. In the era of downsizing, RR relies on a well-known and tested solution: a double-charged V12 with a capacity of 6.75 l (why change something that works?) The power is 571 hp and the torque is 850 Nm available as soon as the tachometer needle shows the number 1600.
The new Ghost is also a four-wheel drive and – interestingly – all wheels are steerable. In combination with a completely new pneumatic adaptive suspension, they are to provide exceptional comfort when negotiating tight corners and unevenness on the road.
A lot of electronics
Laser lights, autonomous driving system, parking assistant, pedestrian and animal recognition system, sensors, cameras, radars, Apple CarPlay, Spotify, shooting stars effect (yes, yes, those on the headliner), position management of… the Spirit of Ecstasy figure on bonnet – is there anything that the car’s designers and constructors have not thought about? Probably not. The new Ghost has all the modern amenities, even those that the RR brand has so far avoided like fire.
Post-opulence, really?
Considering all the above described “features” of the car, I am not really convinced that the new Ghost is “post-opulence” 🙂 It is bigger, it has a fantastically powerful engine, amazing suspension, all possible support systems, the best finishing materials and even… rugs made of wool produced from a special fleece of small sheep. It is simply luxurious, comfortable and exclusive, and the only trace of minimalist tendencies can be found in the beautiful straight lines of the body.
The price tag of the new Ghost
Of course, it is not cheap, but for someone who has millions on his account, an expenditure of PLN 1.5 million will not be too painful. Especially that in return it will get a car that behaves like a “flying carpet” and wonderfully combines tradition with modernity.
