Harley Davidson Fat Boy: The return of a legend
I do not often post about motorcycles but I just had to make an exception for the classic Harley Davidson Fat Boy.
There is this scene in the Terminator 2 where the young protagonist is running away from the assasin from the future chasing him in a truck on his small enduro bike. The boy is spectacularly rescued by another android played by Arnold Schwarzenegger. And he does so while rising an incredible machine, namely a Harley Davidson Fat Boy. A few days ago, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the launch of the original version on the market, the US motorbike manufacturer unveiled a limited edition of the Fat Boy. I must tell you that it did a great job, at least in my humble motorcycle-newbie opinion.
Harley Davidson Fat Boy AD 2020 is a very successful variation of the original bike. The colour scheme is primarily dark (black and brown hues) and satin-coated wheels make quite an impression. The bike has very thick tyres (160 mm in the front and 240 in the back) and the dumpy body really make it look like a fat boy. Do not be fooled by its looks, though, the bike is an agile and quick bike as if it were a light-weight wrestling champion.
Fat Boy has all the flagship characteristics of the famous Harley Davidson make. These include excellent driving performance, great brakes and a strong engine that makes the ride a pleasure. The look is a combo of contemporary design with industrial history. Fat Boy is fitted with the Milwaukee-Eight 114 engine – the most powerful drive found in Harleys. Is it Big Twin liquid cooled and has the capacity of 1868 cm3. The engine has a classic design and is more powerful and durable than its predecessors.
The Milwaukee factory will produce 2,500 bikes of this model only, which means that this will be a collector’s bike. The serial number will be embossed on a special plate on the fuel tank.
The price tag of the bike? The Fat Boy is likely to cost from PLN 95,000 upwards.
