Ferrari F8 Tributo: The end of an era
Some time ago, I promised to tell you in more detail about a few cars that I had the opportunity to see at the Geneva Motor Show. I have already written a post about the Aurus Senat, or Putin’s limousine, and today, the time has come for the Ferrari F8 Tributo.
If I remember correctly, I had already written about this before, but I need to say it again: I love cars from the Maranello factory. To me, they are quintessential features of a dream car: performance, craftsmanship quality, great design and an edge. The Ferrari F8 Tributo is all this and more. It also pays tribute (hence its name) to the other models of this make.
What does it hide under the hood?
No surprises here: the car has an engine used in other Ferrari models i.e. a V8twin-turbo gasoline 3.9 l engine. The engine has been winning the International Engine of the Year award for the last three years. It stands out from other Ferraris owing to its power: we get as much as 720 KM of power and maximum torque of 770 Nm.
Fast as a lighting
The engine offers fantastic performance. The F8 Tributo accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in only 2.9 s, which means that the car is faster than its predecessor – the 488 GTB – by 0.1 s. The car will reach two hundred km on the meter in 7.8 s. Those who love speed will be happy to hear that the speedometer will only stop at 340 km/h. Almost like the Ferrari 488 Pista which is a racing car.
Inside and outside
The car was slimmed down and the aerodynamics and pressure were improved. This translates into the car sticking better to the road and is a pleasure to drive.
As regards the design, nothing is bound to surprise you – the Ferrari has been deploying similar solutions for years, which makes it impossible to mistake the subsequent models with any other make. There are no revolutionary changes inside, only some minor tweaks were introduced. The solutions used in the 488 were copied here although the steering wheel was replaced with a smaller one and the Human Machine Interface was installed.
In fact, there are more similarities with other Ferrari models – the front and the rear window made from plastics bring to mind the F40, while the dual lamps in the back make the car resemble the 308 GTB.
The end of an era
I have heard that the F8 Tributo will be the last car that Ferrari made us accustomed to. The next model to be unveiled will be equipped with a hybrid engine which means that the capacity of the gasoline engine will drop. As such, downsizing will affect this classic make as well.
