I have written many posts about luxury yachts being a status symbol. This is certainly the case with the boats that you can read about in today’s post. These are the most expensive and most luxurious vessels owned by the world’s most affluent. And since the Monaco Yacht Show is only a month away from now, this is indeed a very hot topic.

3rd Place: Azzam, USD 650 million

This yacht is owned by the Sheik Khalif bin Zayed al-Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates and the Emir of Abu Dhabi. According to its manufacturer, it is “the most complex and challenging yacht that has ever been built”. It is also, without a doubt, not only one of the most expensive but also the longest luxuriant yacht: it is 590 feet or 180 metres long. This is more than Roman Abramowicz’s Eclipse yacht that you can read about further on. The Azzam is also one of the fastest yachts– its maximum speed is 40 knots. Its elegant interior is the brainchild of French interior designer Christophe Leoni.

2nd Place: Eclipse, USD 1,5 billion

The proud owner of the Eclipse is billionaire Roman Abramowicz. The yacht was built by Blohm+Voss of Hamburgand it is the world’s second longest yacht. The vessel houses 24 guest cabins, two swimming pools, a number of Jazuzzis and a dancefloor. It also has two helipads and is furnished with three motor boats and one mini submarine with a max draught of 50 metres. The vessel is also equipped with advanced safety systems, including a reinforced master bedroom, bulletproof glazing and anti-paparazzi shields. Guests of the Eclipse are served by a 70-person strong crew.

Winner: History Supreme, USD 4,5 billion

The 100-feet vessel was designed by world-famous British designer Stuart Hughes. It took three years to build and the lucky owner of the yacht is a Malaysian billionaire who paid quite a lot of money for it. The reason behind the exorbitant price is the gold and platinum that adorn the yacht– allegedly 100,000 kg of these precious metals were used. In the master bedroom there is a bas-relief made of meteorite on one of the walls, as well as a sculpture made of the bones of a real T-rex. There is no shortage of other artefacts decorated with diamonds and other precious stones available on board.
