The Hublot “Classic Fusion” Yacht Club de Monaco timepiece: beauty and precision
What is the Formula 1 race all about? Above all, it is about the highest speed and shortest possible time. Only the combination of these two factors lets the world’s best drivers win the annual Grand Prix competition. Since the event is held in Monaco today, I realised it might be a great idea to devote today’s post to one of the key elements of a successful race, namely time. It will not be a post about the fastest round of the race, though, but about an exceptional timepiece that has strong ties with Monaco, namely the Hublot “Classic Fusion” Yacht Club de Monaco timepiece.
You may remember another post about the brand itself I wrote a while back, and if you do not, have a look here. Let me just remind you that the brand is relatively new – it was founded in 1980 – but it has made itself known for its far from obvious aesthetic solutions such as the combination of gold-plated bezels and… rubber straps. The Hublot “Classic Fusion” Yacht Club de Monaco toowas also made in observance of the brand’s philosophy.
The timepiece was introduced in 2009, during the Yacht Club de Monaco event held in celebration of the centenary of the Admiral Tigua yacht. Hublot is the official timekeeper of the event so designing a model paying homage to the sailing tradition and the yacht itself was a natural decision on their part. This is the reason behind the Tigua name and logo inscribed on the dial, alongside the flag of the Yacht Club.
As in the case of its other timepieces, this time Hublot opted for a unique combination of materials, i.e. pink gold, carbon, rubber and ceramics. The 45mm bezel made of 5N pink gold conceals an automatic mechanical movement HHUB 110, 21 stones and a 42-hour power reserve. The bezel is made from black satin ceramics and the crown from pink gold. The watch is 100 m water-resistant (10 ATM). Since this is a limited edition, only 100 timepieces were made.
If you would like to buy this unique watch, it will set you back over 30 thousand złoty. Its high price is the product of the small number of watches available, which translates into a higher collector’s value of the model.
