Maserati MC20: sports elegance

Elegant, sporty and super-fast – that’s the new Maserati MC20, which stole my heart at first sight.

It is true that almost a year has passed since the launch of this car, but it is one of those models which are worth devoting at least one entry to. All the more so, because I have not written about the trident brand cars even once before, and the super sports Maserati MC20 definitely deserves to be better known.

I don’t know how you feel about the brand, but I get the impression that despite its sporting pedigree, for some time now Maserati has become primarily a manufacturer of comfortable limousines. For me, it lacked the punch that the brand was known for when it produced primarily racing cars. In my opinion, the MC20 has beautifully carried on Maserati’s glorious tradition of fast track cars.

What hides under the bonnet?

The quick answer to that question would be: nothing. And that’s because in the Maserati Mc20, the all-new Nettuno 3-litre, 630bhp six-cylinder power unit is positioned behind the seats. Drive is, of course, shifted to the rear axle, so the driving fun is as it should be in a sports car. Performance? 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 325 km/h. Apparently the sound of this engine is music to the ears of automaniacs.

Beautiful lines

The chassis integrated with the body form a monocoque and provides the rigidity required by such fast machines. The scissor-opening doors are a feature that all sports car fans appreciate and love. Then there are the beautiful, elegant lines and the attention to detail for top aerodynamics. It is worth noting that for a sports car, the Maserati is quite large – it is 4.7 m long – but lightweight (only 1.5 tonne).

Minimalistic interior

Maserati is not a brand for people who like glamour, so the interior is luxurious but minimalist at the same time. Leather upholstery, carbon fibre and touchscreens are pretty much standard in cars of this class. To distinguish themselves from their rivals Ferrari and McLaren, Maserati stylists have opted for deep black and a spotty use of colours coinciding with the body colour.

The price tag

Prices of the new model under with trident start from about EUR 250,000. So, it is not very expensive, but obviously not cheap either. I do not know about you, but I would love to drive this car.
