Mykonos: parties, snobs and beautiful beaches!

This is my last post from the “my great Greek vacation” series. I wrote an article for you about the island of Santorini, invited you to the best restaurants in Mykonos, and today I would like to tell you a bit about the island of Mykonos itself.

The Greek Ibiza

If I had to compare Mykonos to any other Mediterranean island it would be Spanish Ibiza. Just like there, the party never ends here. It’s easier to run into a celebrity and paparazzi following him or her than to find pristine beaches; it is easier to party 24/7 in crowded clubs under the sign of Buddha Bar or Skandinavian Bar than to relax surrounded by wild nature. I will not even mention luxury boutiques – the offer on the island is better than in our Warsaw Vitkac. So Mykonos is an island that is snobby and very expensive, but still very beautiful.

Taxis only for local people

Isa and I stayed in a beautiful place called Ornos Beach. We stayed in an amazing apartment and spent a lot of time every day on the sandy beach covered with the turquoise waters of the Aegean Sea. This is a location usually chosen by people looking for relaxation and rest – you will meet families with children, gastronomic tourists or couples here. Party-goers do not choose this corner of the island because of the peace that reigns here.

Fortunately, the largest city of the island, which is – what a surprise – Mykonos, was only 3.5 kilometers away. Interestingly, we could cover this distance either on foot or with special “transfers”. This is because there are only… 31 taxis on the island and only residents can use them. Of course, transfers for tourists are much more expensive.

180 Sunset Bar

For lovers of beautiful sunsets, located above the old port, 180 Sunset Bar will be like a paradise. It is here where, with a glass of something delicious, nibbling on great snacks, you can admire the most beautiful sunsets on the island.

The place has a huge occupancy, so you need to make a reservation, but it’s really worth it. The unique location allows you to see both the sea and the city from here. It is complemented by music ideally suited to the circumstances.

What to do in Mykonos?

Well, the answer to this question depends of course on how you like to spend your free time, but I – apart from visiting the restaurants on the island described in the above-mentioned text – especially recommend you three activities.

1. Relaxing on the beach

Fans of warmth and sunbathing will feel great here. The island has a lot to offer in this regard. For families and couples, I recommend the previously mentioned Ornos and Platis Gialos. Party-goers will love Paradise, Super Paradise and Paraga.

2. A catamaran cruise

Isa and I were delighted with our trip – Mykonos is even more beautiful when viewed from the sea. We set out in the afternoon and spent time on the catamaran until sunset. Small coves, rocky shores, town lights seen from a distance, and fresh seafood made by the chef on the grill right in front of our eyes … It was great!

3. An afternoon in ten town of Mykonos

For someone who likes Greek island vibes, a visit to the town is a must. White houses with blue decorations, charming narrow streets, numerous pubs and bars, the view of the sea and the port – I could go on and on about these things, but you simply have to see it with your own eyes.
