From Tashkent to New York

The future founder of the brand Jacob & Co. he was 14 when he emigrated with his family from his native Tashkent (Uzbekistan). It was 1978 and the Arabo family wanted a better life than what one of the Central Asian Soviet Republics could offer. At 16, he dropped out of school and enrolled in a 6-month jewellery course. Jacob was a diligent student, so he graduated 2 months early. A year later, he designed his first jewellery in one of New York’s factories.

Jacob the Jeweller

As a 21-year-old, he started his own business. His products have appealed to many hip-hop artists. This was a time Arabo switched from conservative and traditional jewellery to more extravagant trinkets. With time, he gained the nickname “Jacob the Jeweller”, which was often referred to in their songs by artists such as Jay-Z, Nas and others. Celebrities from the front pages of newspapers – Whitney Houston and Mary J. Blige also became fans of Jacob Arabo.

Jacob & Co.: Swiss precision, Uzbek fantasy

Over time, Jacob Arabo focused on designing jewellery and watches for men. He had some practice in this, because he had spent the first summer in his new homeland on an apprenticeship with a watchmaking company. It was then that his fascination with watches was born, and a dream appeared in his head that one day he would create small watchmaking miracles.

To this end, he traveled to Switzerland in search of business partners, but was received quite coldly. He returned to America without a Swiss partner, but with a firm determination that he would make his first watch himself. And so it happened – his quartz Five Timezone was worn, among others, by Elton John, Naomi Campell, Justin Timberlake or Bono.

Beautiful and precise

The second trip to Switzerland turned out to be more successful – Arabo finally found a willing partner with whom he created the world’s first vertical tourbillon with a 31-day power reserve. Then everything happened quickly.

Today Jacob & Co. watches is synonymous with the highest quality, numerous advanced complications and amazing designs that you will not experience anywhere else. In his watches, Jacob Arabo focuses not only on perfect movements, but also on an attractive appearance – you can see his jewellery soul in them. Stainless platinum, gold in all its varieties and diamonds are the basic materials with which I work.
