Porsche 911 Targa: Extremely fast and highly seductive
I don’t think I know any man who had not dreamt of having a Porsche car when he was a kid. The make was the epitome of the ideal car that had to be fast, powerful, sporty, have leather upholstery and often a detachable or convertile roof. The Porsche 911 Targa is all that and more. This is why I welcomed the news that a new variant of the model has been launched recently with enthusiasm.
Targa is one of the three bodies (coupé, cabriolet and targa) that the 911 model comes in. In my opinion the Targa is the most versatile of the three since it combines protection against bad weather and the perks of a convertible. It is also the perfect car for the undecided as it has the characteristics of both car options 😉 It only takes 19 seconds to fold the moving part of the roof in the latest Targa but it cannot be done at a high speed and there cannot be any obstacles behind. It seems that to fold the roof you need to first open the panoramic rear window.
The latest Porsche 911 Targa was launched in two variants: 4 and 4S. The 4 variant features a turbocharged 3 l 385KM engine with maximum 450 Nm torque; and the 4S is fitted with a 450 KM engine and 530 Nm torque. The Targa has a four-wheel drive.
The 4 has an 8-gear automatic gear box and the 4s a 7-gear manual box so the fun is much greater. According to the manufactuer, the 4 consumes approx. 9.9 l of fuel per 100 km and the 4S not much more, as it only 10.3 l.
Of course, the figures apply if you do not keep checking how fast the car will go from 0 to 100 km/h so let me tell you now: the 4 takes 4.4 s (with the Sport Chrono package option – 4.2 s.), the more powerful 4S – takes 3.8 s (with the Sport Chrono option – 3.6 s.).
The Porsche 911 Targa is partly an autonomous car owing to the InnoDrive functionality. In a traffic jam it will self-drive up to the speed of 60 km/h, and it anticipates the route 3 km in advance letting the driver enjoy the views. But his is possible only if the smart cruise control mechanism is switched on as it operates the acceleration and break itself – it does so based on data supplied by the navigation feature. The Targa is also fitted with other safety systems, which makes the powerful car safer to drive.
The interior is minimalistic and simple. The tachometer is in the centre of the switchboard which is typical for Porsche cars, and there are two other displays on the sides. The central screen of the Porsche Communication Management system has a 10.9 inch diameter! As expected, the comfortable bucket seats are upholstered with high-end leather.
The price tag for the gem: the Porsche 911 Targa 4 costs from PLN 635,000 and the 4S from PLN 710,000.
