I like ambitious brands with a vision and Polpora, a Polish timepiece manufactory certainly is one.

When researching blog posts, I often browse the depths of the Internet in search for interesting topics. Recently, I came across coverage from the premiere of the Flamingi watch by Polish brand Polporaand decide to find out more about the brand.

Although timepiece gems usually originate from Switzerland, any watchmakers from other countries that make great timepieces of similar quality to the Swiss standard are excellent news. Polpora is definitely such a business. This manufactory based in Zielona Góra has been producing exclusively limited editions of mechanical watches with the help of Polish craftsmen and Swiss movements. The name Polpora originates from a blend of two elements, the abbreviation POL denoting Poland and “pora” which means time in Polish.

Polpora timepieces draw inspiration from Polish heritage. The collection includes both watches inspired by history (Kościuszko, Misico, 1918), science-inspired watches (Polon), and timepieces drawing on the Polish Art Nouveau movement (Irises, Flamingos). The brand also has watches for travellers (Globtroter and Aqua Vigor). Below is a review of the most interesting models. All models come from limited editions.

Flamingos

This beautiful women’s watch has a hand-enamelled dial. The heart of the Flamingos model is a traditional Swiss automatic movement with a premium finish.

Globetrotter

Everyday watch with the GMT complication and higher water resistance. Owing to the vintage-style bezel it looks smart and stylish. The mesh bracelet completes the great look.

Aqua Vigor

A timepiece for those who prefer classic elegance. The 42-milimeter steel case is topped by a characteristic crown filled with dark teal-blue ceramic; the dial is finished with a sunray effect and massive numerals. The watch has two practical complications: power-reserve indicator and big date display.

1918 Independence

This exceptional model was made in celebration of the centenary of Poland’s regaining independence, and only 100 (obviously!) watches were made. The timepiece has many white and red elements and the Swiss automatic movements pays homage to the best watchmaker tradition.

Polon

The name of this model was taken from an element discovered by Maria Curie-Skłodowską, and the date of creation is not accidental: both the women’s and men’s versions premiered in 2017 to commemorate the 150^th anniversary of the Nobel-prize winner’s birth date. Both models have elements inspired by the chemical properties of the element.

Kościuszko

A very interesting, single-hand model made to commemorate the 200^th anniversary of the death of Tadeusz Kościuszko. It was fitted with a Swiss manual movement, has movable horns and a crocodile-leather strap. It was inspired by pocket watches that were transformed into wrist timepieces.
