Bugatti Centodieci: Luxury birthday present
Bugatti is without a doubt a make that always sparks my interest whenever it is in the news. Recently, at this year’s Geneva show where the make unveiled its La Voiture Noir, and now the world has been introduced to the most recent “baby” of the French automotive make, i.e. the Bugatti Centodieci at the Best of Show in Pebble Beach. The Italian term ‘centodieci’ means ‘one hundred and ten’, which is precisely how old this French car make is turning this year.
A slightly different Chiron
The construction of the car is not all-new, actually. The Centodieci was built on the platform of the Chirona (as was La Voiture Noir). Still, it has a sporty and extreme design and is similar in style to the EB110 manufactured in the 1990s. It has an elongated front of the small grill, narrow LED lights, narrow air vents, the characteristic set of rear lamps and an engine that can be seen through the transparent cover – it is clear that the designers of the Centodieci were heavily inspired by its older brother EB110.
What hides under the bonnet?
The Centodieci has by roughly 100 KM higher power than the Chirona. Under the bonnet (or in fact a glass cover), there is a W16 8.0 l and 1600 KM engine. Such a powerful engine means that the Centodieci accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.4 seconds, and from 0 to 300 km/h in 13.1 seconds. The maximum speed of the car is electronically controlled and was set at 380 km/h. Interestingly, the car is by some 20 kg lighter than the Chiron – it is clear that the design was revamped to better serve performance.
A limited edition
The Centodieci is a gift the make made itself and its fans to celebrate its 110th anniversary. And since presents are pretty unique, the car comes as a limited edition. Only 10 of these supercars will be made and, interestingly, each has already been ordered and purchased. The new owners were evidently not put of by the price of the car, namely nearly EUR 9 million excl. of VAT (approx. PLN 39 million excl. of VAT).
