Hublot and Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter: Are watches endorsed by the famous rap artists a good investment?
I have been interested in the market of luxury timepieces ever since I remember. This is why I have written a number of posts about watches already. Today, read on to find out more about a collection of watches born out of a collaboration of Hublot with the well-known rap artist Shawn Carter aka Jay-Z.
Hublot is a brand that needs no introduction to anyone who is at least a little familiar with the watch market. Founded by Carlo Crocco in 1980, it combines Swiss precision and Italian madness. In 2013, Hublot officially invited Jay-Z to collaborate with them. The rap artist had been seen wearing different Hublot timepieces before and even rapped about Hublot in the track Otis performed with Kanye West.
The fruit of the collaboration is the Shawn Carter Collection comprising two watches from the Classic Fusion line: one with a 45 mm bezel made from black ceramics and with z 45 mm bezel made from 18-karat gold. Both have HUB1300 movement (power reserve is 90 hours and its alternance per hour is21.600 A/h). What makes these two watches stand out is the star cut out in the bezel – it is the logo of the Shawn Carter collection – under which we can see the mechanism. The timepiece has a rubber-lined alligator-skin strap.
The edition is limited, needless to say. The Hublot Classic Fusion Shawn Carter was issued in 250 items (ceramics) and 100 items (in yellow gold) only.
Why is this timepiece worth your attention? Firstly, the Hublot brand itself is interesting and luxurious enough to cause the value of their timepieces to grow. Hublot is one of the key competitors of e.g. Audemar Piguet. Secondly, this particular model is not only unique but also highly appreciated on the market. It is a really good investment that may yield a considerable profit one day. I also like the brand philosophy which opts for off-beat combos both in terms of materials and business alliances.
