Truly Tuscan style
Tuscany is a place that many associate with idyllic, undulating landscapes, vineyards and lots of sun. The region also has a rich cultural heritage which can be seen everywhere you go. You can definitely fall in love with Tuscany at first sight and you will want to return there time and again or even move there entirely.
I, personally, am a frequent visitor to Tuscany and the thing that I enjoy most about it, is its distinct Tuscan style. This is why I wrote this poste featuring an analysis of the core features of this style on the example of the homes for sale listed at my company Crystal House.
Tuscan colours
The first thing that a visitor to Tuscany notices is the colours. Bright greens, vivid yellows, deep blues or smoky brown surround us everywhere. No wonder that we later see these hues as the prevailing colour scheme in Tuscan-style interiors – on the walls, the furniture and home decor textiles.
Wood and stone
Wood and stone are the core construction materials in Tuscany. The houses are usually made of stone with external shutters and exposed wooden beams supporting the ceiling inside. The walls can be plastered but often the stone walls are bare or the plaster looks as if it was carelessly put on by the plasterer. The floors are usually made of wood, stone or are covered with terracotta tiles. Such a selection of materials is not surprising, they have excellent insulation properties which protect the houses against the hot Tuscan summers.
Grandparents’ furniture
You would be hard pressed to find austere modernity in Tuscan homes. The furniture looks as if it had been used by the current owners’ grandparents – they are visibly worn and used. Another typical feature of the furniture is that it is eclectic and seemingly mismatched. I could even use the term “chaotic” but there is a method to this madness. Simply put, the interiors and furniture are just like the people who live there: optimistic, colourful, open and off-beat.
Very large windows
Tuscany is an incredibly sunny region. The locals put this to their advantage and install huge windows in their houses which provide lots of sunlight inside.
When you have a moment, have a look at the Crystal House website and see two excellent examples of typical Tuscan architecture.
