Can the kitchen be a luxury space?

In my job, I see many different kitchens. Depending on the property, the kitchen may be smaller, larger, traditional, modern, well-furnished and featuring excellent equipment. But I had never before seen kitchens like those I saw at  an Italian kitchen furniture and appliances showroom. This was a joint project of two brands: Scic and Fendi which joined their forces under the Fendi Cucine trademark.

Fashion houses are looking for new areas of activity

Today, it is not surprising to anyone that a brand like Fendi decided to design kitchens. This expedition into a completely new area of business is the result of a trend that has been observed in the world of fashion for some years now. Gucci opened a restaurant in Florence some time ago and Dolce&Gabbana launched its… pasta on the market. Designing for the kitchen was a natural move forward for Fendi. The fashion house had already designed furniture under theFendi Casa.

A blend of luxury and high-end design

Scic is an abbreviation from the name Super Cucine Italiane Componibili or modular superb Italian kitchens. The brand was founded a few years after the war, in 1948 as a carpenter studio in the centre of Parma. The business bloomed in the 1960s: Scic became a large company mostly associated for elegant and technologically advanced kitchens. As for Fendi, it has been dealing in the design of home interiors, and the Fendi Casa furniture and accessories have gained quite a lot of renown on the market.

Initially, the two brands created two kitchen islands in very different styles. The Kurkum has a masculine side to it: it is simple, austere and made from stainless steel. Ginger is a female island: marble combined with copper counters bring to mind the Art Deco style.
