Are eco-friendly cars the future of the automotive industry?
It is now common knowledge that something has to be done about the cars we drive. Combustion engines generate not only the energy that allows our car to move about but also produce a number of by products that have disastrous effects on the condition of our natural environment. This is why the cars we drive are bound to become more environmentally-friendly.
The large concerns are well aware of that so every now and then the market welcomes a new electric or hybrid car model. Will the luxury makes go green too? It turns out that they already have and there are at least a few eco-friendly and luxury cars on the market that I would happily welcome in my garage.
Is electro mobility the future of the automotive industry?
There is more than one reason why we should consider buying an electricity-powered or hybrid car. Firstly, electro mobility in the automotive industry is great for the environment. Less exhaust fumes translates into less pollution. Secondly, automotive giants are constantly working on designing such electric engines that would allow for better performance and for longer distances covered on a full loaded engine. Thirdly, electric cars are economical – it is assumed that the average costs of driving 100 km by an electric car is approximately PLN 8 i.e. By 70% less than is the case with combustion engines. This is why I am convinced that the future of the car industry will be owned by electric and hybrid cars. Which ones? Here are three eco-friendly cars that have caught my eye and I would gladly own and drive.
BMW i8 – hybrid
My favourite make has launched this interesting model a few years ago. The BMW i8 Coupé is a car equipped with an innovative plug-in hybrid engine that can generate 374 HP. Owing to this solution, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds. Of course, the look and interior are topmost quality, as is always the case with BMW.
Tesla S P90d – electric
Tesla S has been manufactured since 2012 and has been very popular among buyers ever since. The most powerful version of this electric car, namely the P90d is equipped with a 90 kWh battery generating a total of 762 HP (259 on the front and 503 on the rear axis) and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, can be driven at the speed of up to 250 km/h and has a range of nearly 500 km.
Lexus GS 450h – hybrid
A very interesting hybrid authored by the Japanese car manufacturer. This car has a merit that many people who value their privacy will find irresistible – it does not stand out. I find the car’s performance quite satisfactory: nearly 345 HP total power, maximum speed at roughly 250 km/h and from 0 to 100 km in 5.8 s. However, to me the comfort that the car offers is far more important.
What about you? Have you got your green favourites already?
