Why do men love Louis Vuitton bags?
It may seem that the Louis Vuitton brand makes bags and accessories primarily for women. This is not entirely true. Louis Vuitton has had an interesting offer of products for men, too. Today’s post is devoted to this luxury brand.
A bit of history
Let us go years back in time to 1854. French craftsman Louis Vuitton sets up his first shop with bags and luggage. He learned the trade from a certain Monsieur Marechal, a famous chest manufacturer from Paris. Success is instant –Louis Vuitton who designs a chest with rounded corners and decorative metal fittings. This invention triggers a revolution in the then art of travelling. One of his first clients is Empress Eugenia who also becomes a patron of Vuitton, endorsing his products among the French upper classes.
The famous monograms
In 1896, Georges, the son of Louis, designs the famous Canvas monogram (the letters LV and other marks against a brown background). The reason behind this was, among others, to prevent unauthorised copying of the brand’s designs. Another characteristic monogram of the brand is the Damier Ebene (a checker board pattern in various hues of brown and in graphite and cobalt versions for men). Despite this, Louis Vuitton products are still frequently copied. This trend is still growing – of all the brand-name products available only 1 per cent are genuine…
Who fell in love with Louis Vuitton bags?
The famous Speedy bag is still one of the favourite (and most often counterfeited) designs. Not many people know that initially, Speedy was a travel bag. We owe it to Audrey Hepburn that a smaller version of the bag was made– when she first saw it, she requested that it be made in the size of a handbag.
Louis Vuitton branded bags were also appreciated by Gabriele Chanel, although she was a fan of the Alma model. What is more, it was the only non-Chanel bag that she ever used.
Interestingly, the Louis Vuitton brand has a strong fanbase among Poles. LV-branded bags have been used and loved by Ignacy Paderewski, the aristocratic Lubomirski, Czartoryski and Potocki families, and more recently, Anna Lewandowska, Doda, Anja Rubik or Michał Witkowski.
Louis Vuitton for men
Although most of us associate the brand primarily with women, a stylish man will find something to his liking among the many men’s accessories available. Of course, the assortment of products includes, above all, men’s bags and backpacks, but also shoes, jewellery, sunglasses and even fragrances. Men are fond of the Louis Vuitton brand for its style, elegance, tradition and modernity encapsulated in every item. I, personally, have been a great fan of this luxury brand for many years and cannot wait to see what new collections they have in store!
