On 16 August, the premiere of the McLaren 600LT car was held. The legendary make has unveiled its most recent creation and I had the opportunity to be one of the first to see it at BMW Auto Fus.

The McLaren 600LT makes quite an impression. It is the fourth car of the “Longtail” line– the lengthened rear part of the bodywork improves the car’s performance. This should not come as a surprise given that the vehicle generates as much as 600 hp (which is where the 600 marking comes from). McLaren claims that the “Longtails” are some of the most extreme of all street-legal cars as regards driving experience.

What attracted my attention instantly was the “slimness” of the car. It reminds me of the Ferrari Pista which is another very fast and very light vehicle. The bodywork of the McLaren 600LT was made of carbon fibre. The car also has special aluminium-reinforced crumple zones. Inside you will not find one excessive element – the car’s core job is to drive fast, which is why there is nothing in there that is not indispensable. The vehicle’s dry weight is just under 1,250 kg.

As I said already, the car has an output of 600 horsepower. This power is generated by a 3,8l V8 engine which sends the power to the rear wheels only. The maximum speed is nearly 330 km/h, and the McLaren accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds. The driver has 7 speeds to avail himself of. The safety of both the driver and passenger are secured by excellent brakes boasting a braking distance from 200 km/h to 0 km/h of only 117 m.

Although the car was considerably “slimmed”, the quality of the interior is absolutely fantastic. The bucket seats are comf0rtable and all the buttons and switches are within easy reach.

The McLaren 600LT costs approx. EUR 230,000. The price includes the Pure McLaren Owner Track Day training.  It is a limited edition the production of which will commence this October and will last until October 2019.
