One Hyde Park: world’s most expensive penthouse sold!
For the last few days I have been in London. This incredible metropolis has always attracted me like a magnet. The more so, because it is here where you find the most expensive and the most luxurious real estate in the world. And it is my area of expertise since I have been dealing with this subject professionally for years. That’s why I will not talk about Trafalgar Square, Tower of London or London Bridge today. Today my post will be about One Hyde Park, one of the most expensive apartment buildings in the world.
To most of us Hyde Park is known because of the Speaker’s Corner – a place where anyone can deliver any speech, provided that its content does not offend the ruling monarch. Even Vladimir Lenin and Karl Marx had their opportunity to speak there. But Hyde Park is also a highly prestigious location in the very center of London. That’s why a block of luxury apartments – One Hyde Park – for extremely wealthy people was built on a nearby street that borders the park.
The construction started in 2007 and the project was completed in 2009. The building was designed by the famous architect studio Rogers Stirk Harbor + Partners, which had delivered such projects as Lloyd’s Building and Millennium Dome in London or Terminal 4 of Madrid’s Barajas airport. The erected building is a block with 86 apartments with top class finishings. What’s more, the whole complex is luxury in its purest form – the residents have at their disposal a 21-metre pool, a private spa, a squash court, a wine cellar, a gym and a virtual golf course. The prices started at an absolutely cosmic level of about GBP 20 million for the smallest property.
I must admit that One Hyde Park attracts well-known and rich people. Rumour has it that Kylie Minogue lives here or that a large penthouse with an area of nearly 3,000 square meters and a beautiful roof terrace was sold to Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim Bin Jaber Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar. Apparently the highest price for an apartment was an astonishing GBP 140 million, paid by a buyer from Eastern Europe, who bought one of the apartments in 2014. They say that this buyer was Ukraine’s richest man, oligarch and billionaire Rinat Akhmetov. One thing’s for sure: One Hyde Park boasts some of the most expensive apartments in the world.
