RMS Queen Mary 2: 18 decks of luxury
When I was 20, I decided to experience a real adventure and enlisted as a crew-member on one of the most luxurious cruise ships: Queen Elizabeth 2. It was a great time for me. I managed to combine hard work, learning and building my character with visiting the world. That’s when my passion for traveling was born. I also met many interesting people and “polished” my English.
Aboard Queen Elizabeth 2 I spent three contracts and during that time I took a cruise around the world (Southampton – NYC – Florida – Colombia – Costa Rica – Los Angeles – Hawaii – French Polynesia – New Zealand – Australia – Philippines – Japan – China – Vietnam – Thailand – Arab Emirates – Europe). I also saw the Norwegian fjords (I, too, had them eating out of my hand☺) and the most beautiful cities of the Mediterranean. Currently, Queen Elizabeth 2 is stationed in Port Rashid in Dubai, serving as a hotel and museum.
Today new cruisers duly replace my ship on the seas and oceans. One of them is Queen Mary 2. This transatlantic liner built in France makes a huge impression with its size: it is 345 meters long, 72 meters high, 41 meters wide and has 18 decks! usually Queen Mary 2 moves at a rate of 26 knots per hour (nearly 50 km/h). Interestingly, some structural elements were made in Poland. Queen Mary 2 is called Royal Mail Ship or a British Mail Ship.
Up to 2,695 passengers can be on board at the same looked after by 1,253 crew members. There is a theater, a cinema, a library, six restaurants, numerous bars and cafes, a disco, a casino, and even a planetarium!
The Queen Mary 2 mainly connects Europe and North America, but she also offers longer cruises. For example, this year one can go on a three-month cruise to the Far East (with prices from GBP 16,649), starting from Southampton or New York, or a three-month cruise around the world (with prices from GBP 18,229). Of course, prices depend on the level of luxury of the cabin and can be significantly higher (the Grand Duplexes cabin can cost as much as GBP 120,000!).
